Test run - Firefly FFGS "Elite" SG style w/Earl Slick humbuckers & new wiring harness
Переглядів 4414 днів тому
After installing new "aged" Earl Slick humbuckers from GFS, a new premium heavy wiring harness with 500k full size pots and polypropylene capacitors, I put this axe back together for a test run. It's still tight like a new guitar. Truly a killer guitar for under $300. The humbucker set I picked is fairly close to a Gibson PAF on the gain scale. I still need to solder in the treble bleed so that...

One the best Pretenders covers I've ever heard !82 year old Life-long guitar and Bass player here. Can only dream of ever rockin' a stage like this band again. Had to to the well to get these for you ! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rock til you drop, Red Hots !!!! ____ The Kruz in Fla.
I actually made mine out of a gutter I got more work to do to it but I'm picking up a lot of people on the super bowl
Gutter will work. But... Performance on the transmit side is entirely an issue of length if you want it to effectively radiate RF output power. Each piece is going to have to be "seen" by the transmitter as 1/4 wavelength in order to achieve a safe SWR and to use the wattage of the radio. If the SWR is beyond 1.5 to 1, power loss becomes a factor. Eventually, you get to a point (usually over 3.0 to 1) where you end up reflecting the power back into the transmitter and will burn up the final transistors.
Beautiful guitar! Getting me a classic soon!
Just like on a record, that is amazing
Thank you. It was a fun night
Love one ..they are 1000 dollars in Australia
as a retired vocalist great job Mr Mowery

Great job!! 🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥 #LoudLove
Thank you
The vocalist is really bang on..an improved audio quality would make it a total gem! Looking forward to more of such Cornell 's covers
We did a nice mix of tunes yesterday. The three of us haven't all played together in probably six years, and we did not rehearse this song. It didn't come off bad for us pulling it out of thin air. And yes, Rod has a set of superhuman lungs. His voice is huge and loud, even when he is out of practice. He always had a way of coming back stronger after periods of off time. As for Lenny Arnold, guy is my top choice for a guitar player to share the stage with, always. Closest thing to a mind reader I have ever played with. He always knows what I'm about to pull out and he's right there. Let a technical glitch sideline my guitar part before a lead solo? There's Lenny. We could interchange like no other. It's rare to find this in a group of guys. We would literally throw shows together last minute, having not played for months or years, and we would make some real magic happen.
Amazing review, I bought the same two months ago after watching this video... and I have to say that I am totally satisfied with it! Thanks :)
That’s a great guitar.
"All the bullshit turned off." Lol. 🤝
Such technical prowess was conveyed in those words, I know 😄💁🏻♂️
@@freepressright I posted he wrong emoji, I meant to show I like that part. I laughed.
Got mine for $260 as if no one wanted a Junior in my country so they put them on sale, best guitar I've ever owned. P90 is perfect for my punkrock taste!
I have 2 of these
Shows that you dont need crazy pick ups all you need is a decent amp amd chops and you can you sound good
I do agree for the most part. A player who is very comfortable with the instrument and basic tone "science" can make due with most anything and get a usable sonic product out of it. While many times I've been disappointed with a rig or guitar's tone print, I have had others raving about how they thought it sounded. So in that vain, I absolutely agree with you. I have had a few guitars with poorly potted pickups that were prone to squealing at even moderate gain levels. I've had a few guitars where the volume pots were more line ON/OFF switches than potentiometers (no linear dynamics on the gain front). But I was still able to use them to a satisfactory degree.
I liked the 13-863 the best. There was a radio you could use anywhere. You could run it in your car, carry it like a walkie talkie, or use it as a base station too. Always wanted one but never bought it.
Great playing also I've been looking at this guitar online I may just buy it. Very nice strat and the neck looks great. ❤
Reminds me of Phantom Fox’s CB in The North Avenue Irregulars.
Great follow up. I watched your original video many times and bought one.
Thank you. I really need to do a similar video to the first one, with this guitar.
@@freepressright that would be great. I replaced my pickups and just love it now.
No truer words have been spoken. And to think there’s people that would call you a conspiracy theorist for just being real and speaking truth. People have woken up the last few years big time to the actions of government, elites, etc. but we still need more to come to the light and see this. Seems like everything media related nowadays has lots it’s integrity and has a political agenda.
Very cool radio
Good build. 👍🏼 On AM, horizontal polarization will limit range to the typical vertically-polarized mobiles and bases, but is doable for close-in work. SSB may exhibit a little more distance. i'm obviously a fan of simple antennas that do the job. 😉
I just got this same model guitar.. I took off the pick guard and it really looks so much better as it shows off the burst more
Hmm... interesting. Some Pauls I like better with a pick guard and others not so much. I bet you're right that this guitar would be sharp without.
@@freepressrightThe satin finish looks nicer too if you polish it up with Daddario Restore Detailer... It gives it more of a Nitro look with a nice shine.
I like that D104 Lollipop Mike 👍
Spectacular amp Katana 50 MK II, powerful.
What do you think of the new Epiphone 59 that has just been released with the Gibson open book headstock, custom buckers Gibson bridge, tailpiece and single piece neck. Is it worth the extra money they are asking?
Epiphone isn't fucking around anymore. They're now an upper-tier guitar. They're about to drop the 3 pickup ivory Les Paul/SG custom, with the Gibson headstock. The new Firebirds are badass. All their new offerings are badass. I'm not a huge fan of the price tags, granted. I think that kind-of defeats the purpose of Epiphones. They're getting very Gibson-ish on their price points over time.
@@freepressright Yeah, Gibson seem hell bent on getting the Epiphone brand back to where it was in the 60's.The only difference is they are made in China rather than the US but CNC machines make that irrelevant anyway.
Holy diver on a Holy Diver? That's pretty meta.
Anyone know what size frets these use?
Depends on the year. 2008-2019 with CGS prefix serial number used medium jumbos. The newer ones are more narrow and tall, but decently comfortable.
its a beatiful and very cool sounding guitar, i love it!
"Sharpen up there, you bastard..." 😆
Words to live by.
@@parkerssafes Hahahahaha! Yes indeed! I could probably stand to say that to myself occasionally, Parker!
Do you think this guitar is as good as a Mexican fender player series?? Great playing don’t cry sounds great
Sending 💕 from Maryland .. Glad to see your playing again ..Rubber Duckie haha
Hey lady!! Hope that you're well. I'm back at the musical grind every weekend.
The center of a Dipole is 75 Ohms but if inverted, you can get the SWR down to a safe level however, this works best if the lowest point of the Dipole is about a quarter wavelength above the ground.
Correct. I have an inverted V at home that I used 1/2 EMT conduit and a 90-degree Handy Ell to build. It took me 15 minutes to build and it does a really decent job. It's a bit directional, but anything except a vertical polarization always will be. When I was younger, I had a vertical dipole made with 14 AWG THHN and it had a Lexan center insulator that I mounted an SO239 in the middle of. I shot it up in a 90 year old oak tree with a sling shot, fishing line and weights. The top of the antenna was probably 60 feet. It gave me five years of excellent service. I regularly ran 300 watts through it with zero issues. It talked as well as any A99 I've ever owned. People shit on dipoles without realizing that they will perform wonderfully when vertical. Problem is, that always requires a lot of height and people aren't always able to find a tree to use. But the horizontal dipole is no slouch at 18 feet off the ground. The directionality is the only impairment.
I have the Epi 59 LP as well and it amazes me how close Epiphone have managed to get to the sound of a Gibson LP Standard, and for under a $1000, its incredible value when you compare it with Gibson pricing. The new line of Inspired by Epiphones are fabulous guitars for the money and I include the acoustics in that as well.
Can I hire you for a gig tomorrow evening or are you busy? Just need like an hr or two, you can bring whoever... It's for a friend of mines birthday party, his last one they're saying... he's now made it to 71 and he is battling congestive heart failure and other health problems and he loves to play music himself, usually the harmonica...
Great review! Can i play Maneskin musics with this guitar?
What length of wire did you use ?
That was stacked speaker wire or lamp cord. I can't recall. But if you are using insulated wire or stacked wire, it will need to be much shorter than what antenna theory suggests. Thats because the stacked wire and extra insulation makes it appear electrically longer to the radio. In this case, this one I think ended up being about 98 inches per leg. If you are using single conductor wire with insulation, start at 104 inches per side and start measuring and trimming accordingly. When doing it indoors like this, antenna theory is only a reference point because the installation is compromised
I love mine, and yes, I like to watch reviews of guitars I already own. This was also worth watching for all the classic riffs. Great job.
Came for the review but stayed for the playing man! Great review and video! You made that strat sing in the wide open. I had subscribed to your channel after those riffs! Great 👍🏾 job on the review and the tips your gave in the comments on upgrades of large alpha 500k pots. 🤘🏾🎸
Thank you for such a heartfelt comment. I always appreciate when people leave feedback. I never intended this video to have the reach that it did. It's been great to watch as people are still enjoying it all these years later. Keep it loud, my friend

Amazing review. One question, what should I study or learn to play rock as you play? Nice performance
Thank you for the kind words. I would tell you that something very basic like AC/DC - where magic is made with a Marshall amp and guitars, is the best place to start. That's because it's simple, yet pure enough that even some great players fail to understand all of its nuances. The guitar sound for that band is the basic blue print for rock tone. You can build outward from there and nail just about any sound you want. Want SRV's sound? Pull back the gain a hair, play with the mids and treble. Want early Metallica? Heap on the gain/overdrive, pull back mids, add bass and play with the high end. Want Slayer? Boost the mids to the moon, boost the gain and leave the treble alone. Sounds overly simplistic, but it resonates in my world, lol.
Made in Indonesia are WELL MADE not like the old days.
All bullets are smaller bodied.
I don't always listen to ACDC, but when I do, so do my neighbors.
Nice!! I just saw Vivan live 1 1/2 weeks ago in Anaheim (..Last In Line band...friggin AMAZING!!!), he said he was playing this very guitar the whole show..So, is this the same guitar?
It's a replica of the Holy Diver Les Paul as it appears currently. My brother built it for me. Thank you for the comment. I hope you enjoyed this little snippet.
Good tone. How do get it?
That's just my Blackstar HT-5 on the overdrive channel. Straight into the amp with no pedals and no effects. Just simple old tone.
I don’t suppose you have an extra power cord lol 😂
Those cables are hard to come by. I am not sure if I still have an extra. I'm happy to look for you.
